Oh For the Love of Books {5}

a play on "in my mailbox" hosted by  Kristi@thestorysiren

This week I really didn't expect to get a lot of books as I was busily packing to move out of my apartment. Teach me to think I can be kept away from a good book though...I made a few buys on my own and got a few as gifts. Also, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I got 3 books through netGalley for review. Here's the rundown for this week:

Twenty Boy Summer, by Sarah Ockler
Published May 1st 2010 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
(first published June 1st 2009)
Paperback, 290 pages

Don't let the seemingly airy title fool you. I was hooked when I first read that this book centered around a secret relationship between a young girl and her best friends older brother, I was desperate to read it though when the blurb continued to reveal that the brother died tragically and the girl is now trying to recover a year later - the relationship still a carefully guarded secret from her best friend. It sounds heartbreaking and heartwarming! A must read for the summer booklist.

The Raven's Bride, by Lenore Hart
Published February 15th 2011 by St. Martin's Griffin (first published February 4th 2011)
Paperback, 368 pages

I've read a few things written by Poe before and knew vaguely about the macabre darkness that surrounded him in life and after death. Admittedly though, it was after I read Nevermore by Kelly Creagh that I wanted to know more about Edgar Allen Poe and his life. By chance I came across this book at Chapters and my mom bought it for me as an Easter gift :)

Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen
Published March 1st 2011 by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill (first published April 9th 2006)
Paperback, 426 pages

I usually don't like movie adaptation covers for books but this one really appealed to me. It has a very distinctive 1930's elegance to it. I also like that, to me anyway, it isn't immediately clear who the two actors are...I prefer this cover to the original. Here's hoping I like the story as much as I enjoyed the movie.

Check out my movie review if you wish!

The Bride, by Julie Garwood
Published February 15th 1991 by Pocket Star
(first published 1989)
Mass Market Paperback, 357 pages

  3. After you read "Raven's Bride," you might want to read my link below. There are some very strange things about that book.
