April Wishlist {Birthday Buys}

My birthday is a week from today and in honour of this most special of occasions I indulged in a few (too many) books as a gift to myself.

As I was scrolling through my goodreads account today looking through all my "to-reads" I noticed that quite a few are either being released the day after I turn 22, or are being released only a few short weeks after.

So, in honour of my birthday and in honour of book lovers everywhere here is a list of the books I am most anticipating to be released in the month of April.

Never a Gentleman, by Eileen Dreyer
published by Forever
Mass Market Paperback, 400 pages

I LOVED the first in The Drake's Rake's series - Barely a Lady by Dreyer. I was new to this author when I picked up her book last summer and remember being so awed by her writing and the storyline she created for her lead characters. Set during the battle of Waterloo, her her and heroine had to battle some pretty heavy issue in order to find their way back to one another. You can read my review on Goodreads here: Barely a Lady

This is the second in the series and I am very much looking forward to delving into Dreyer's world along with the hero Diccan and heroine Grace.
I haven't read a historical romance in a while...too busy reading YA, so I'll reintegrate myself with this gem :)

The Gathering, by Kelley Armstrong
published by HarperCollins
Hardcover, 368 pages

I'm really excited for this one! I've read the first in Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Underworld series, Bitten and absolutely loved it, so when my friend bought the first in her Darkest Powers series, The Summoning, the first in a detour of YA paranormal fiction for Armstrong I gravitated to her upcoming Darkness Rising series. As far as I've read on Armstrong's website, the Darkest Rising series is a spin off of the Darkest Powers. It follows different characters in the same eerie world as its predecessor. Always a proud Canadian, I'm also very intrigued by both the book and the author as Bitten opened in Toronto, Ontario and The Gathering takes place in Vancouver, BC. I'm intrigued by not only the paranormal world but by the setting of a well known Canadian city. Woot Woot Eh?!

City of Fallen Angels, by Cassandra Clare
(#4 in the Mortal Instruments series)
published by Margaret K. McElderry
Hardcover, 424 pages

AHHHHHHH! That about sums up my thoughts on this upcoming release. I devoured the first 3 in The Mortal Instruments series back in January when I hauled up in my apartment for the weekend and read through all three. I could not put this series down and I stare at it constantly wanting to pick it up and re-read it all over again. I can't say enough about how great this series!

So you can imagine how excited I am for the fourth in the series. Clare didn't originally intend to make this series a 6 part-er, but hey I won't snub my nose at more time with Jace, Clary, Isabell, Alec and Simon!

Stay, by Deb Caletti
published by Simon Pulse
Hardcover, 352 pages

I haven't read anything by Deb Caletti before, but after reading several advance reviews about this book my interest is piqued.

The story follows a teenage girl named Clara, who after an intense affair with her boyfriend Christian has to escape the city to a small town called Bishop Rock with her father, when her relationship turns from passion to obsession.

The seriousness of the storyline is one that seems both dark and intimidating but also a very important one for young girls.
I'm interested to see how Caletti handles the subject of obsessive and controlling relationships.

We'll Always Have Summer, by Jenny Han
published by Simon & Schuster
Hardcover, 288 pages

This is the third and final chapter in the long time friendship and complicated love triangle between Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah. I previously reviewed the first book The Summer I Turned Pretty and although I only gave it 3 stars its the type of story that stays with you. You think about the characters, the complications the drama and the summer long after the story has ended. I have the second book It's Not Summer Without You currently sitting on my shelf, but I want to wait until the third comes out in store before I settle in to read it. I've heard from others who have already gotten their hands on the third book that you'll want it on hand when you finish the second.

Abandon, by Meg Cabot
published by Scholastic Inc.
Hardcover, 320 pages

I've never read anything by Meg Cabot...crazy I know. But I've heard her writing is good at the synopsis for this book looks very interesting.

It's right in line with the YA paranormal scene and I'm going crazy buying books in this section of the local bookstore right now.

Here's hoping Abandon will be a really great introduction to a new - oldey but goodey author.

  1. I'm really excited about The Gathering as well! Especially because it's by a Canadian author. In fact, this Sunday I'll be meeting Kelley Armstrong at a book signing for The Gathering and everyone that attends will get a copy before it's released! So excited!

CoFA. My anticipation for this one is just unimaginable. I can't even put into words how excited I am!

I received Stay via Galley Grab and I'll definitely be reading it soon. I haven't read any of Caletti's other books so I'm really excited.

I read the first two Summer books in Jenny Han's series and I absolutely adored them! Perfect summer reads! I also received We'll Always Have Summer from Galley Grab and I can't wait to read it!
